Susan was born in Iowa and raised in the midwest. She discovered the joy of drawing and painting as soon as she could hold a crayon. From her teenage years she has had a passion for drawing faces and the human form. Her first professional work as an artist was as a portrait painter. In the third grade she announced to her family she was going to be an actress and she has pursued that dream for over 20 years, doing commercials, theatre, and television in New York and Los Angeles. Today she devotes a majority of her time to painting. Her theatrical background heavily influences her painting. She uses her family and friends as models. "I think of them as characters in a play or film. I costume them, add props and place them in an appropriate setting to capture a mood, a fantasy, a moment in time. Susan graduated from the University of Iowa and received an MFA from Ohio University as well as having studied art in Paris. Her originals can be found in galleries and collectors' homes around the country.
